Having already in the 1980s scored such emotionally intense dramas as Once Upon A Time in America and The Mission， Ennio Morricone was inspired to write one of his warmest， most heartfelt and moving scores. His main theme， set for piano and solo violin over strings， is gloriously bittersweet， marvellously evoking a past which can never be revisited except on screen. He contrasts this with a more urgent， questing theme in ’Runaway， Search And Return’ and the inescapable circling terror of ’Cinema On Fire’. Introduced on delicate woodwinds， the utterly beguiling ’Love Theme’ is actually by Andrea Morricone and fits the mood of the score to perfection.
